With 4 major ski resorts at Stubnerkogel, Sportgastein, Schlossalm and Dorfgastein there is a broad offer of various terrains suitable from kids and families to experts only.
Wide variety of long red difficulty slopes with traverses between valleys and resorts in the Stubnerkogel - Angertal - Schlossalm area is every skier's favourite while off-piste and freeride is (not exclusively though) the domain of Sportgastein. Dorfgastein has an interesting connection to Grossarl and together these two are always a lot of fun on the slopes with epic scenery of Hohe Tauern range (and more). They get even more fun on the snowy days with both alpine and forest freeride lines opening up.
Lifts aside there's a simple two word message for all ski touring and backcountry enthusiasts: endless possibilities.
From 3000m high alpine peaks with frequent hiking trails to abundant waterfalls and epic sceneries Gastein is a summer mountain paradise.
Summer in the mountains welcomes hikers of all levels as well as climbers, mountain bikers and trail runners. The peaceful natural surroundings of the mountain lodge with many easy walking trails around is perfect for young families.
A demanding crossing to neighboring Mallnitz Valley via the ancient Römerweg (Roman trail) with a train trip back through the Tauern Tunnel in Böckstein is one of the hiking highlights of the whole Gastein. Another trail starting right from Marienstein goes further up the Anlauftal valley towards the mighty Ankogel with 3.252m at its end and makes for an easier but equally rewarding scenic tour.
Gastein is renowned for its thermal springs and a variety of spas offering relaxation and recovery after your mountain adventures all year long.
